Psychology (B.S.)

UNIVERSITY GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS       42 hours

  • GSD 101:  Student Success Seminar      3 hours
    (Waived for transfers with 30+ hours)
  • Wellness       3 hours
  • Writing Intensive Course (Hours incorporated into Major/Supporting/Gen. Ed./Free Elective Category)
  • ACCT - Psychology majors will fulfill ACCT with PSY 400 or 401 or 579. (Credit hours are incorporated into program requirements below.)

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
A minimum grade of "C" is required in all courses counted toward the major.

CORE COURSE REQUIREMENTS       43-45 HOURS

PLUS a minimum of THREE (3) HOURS selected from EACH of the following groups:

  Group 1: Biological Bases of Behavior

(Students in the Substance Abuse or Brain & Cognitive Science Concentrations must select PSY 311)

   Group 2: Cognition/Learning

   Group 3: Developmental

(Students in the Child & Family Psychology Concentrations must select PSY 312 and students in the Psychology of the Workplace Concentration must select either 314 or 316)

   Group 4: Social/Personality

(Students in the Substance Abuse, Autism Spectrum, Forensic or Workplace Concentrations must select PSY 308 in this area)

   Group 5: Skills

(Students in the Substance Abuse Concentration must select PSY 490; Students in the Child & Family Concentration must select PSY 406; Students in the Workplace Concentration must select  PSY 405)

Certificate

Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate

The Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate provides integrated multidisciplinary training in autism and related disorders. Participation is limited to students enrolled in graduate degree programs in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Communication Disorders, and Special Education. Admission to one of the designated graduate degree programs does not guarantee admission to the certificate program. Post-degree students with graduate degrees in one of these fields will also be considered, although the focus of the certificate is on pre-service training. Students seeking admission to the certificate program should contact their graduate program advisor for information.

A total of 18 credit hours is required for candidates for the Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate, including 1 course in each of the four participating disciplines (Psychology, Occupational Therapy,   Communication Disorders, and Special Education), one discipline specific practicum in autism spectrum disorders, and a capstone course in autism spectrum disorders.  Requirements include:

  • OTS 863:  Occupation and Sensory Processing (3)
  • PSY 777:  The Autism Spectrum (3)
  • CDS 867 or CDS 878 or CDS 720 (3)
  • SED 790: Applied Behavior Analysis (3) 

PLUS ONE (1) of the following courses totaling three (3) hours:

  • OTS 831 or PSY 838 or PSY 843 or CDS 874 or SED 897

PLUS ONE (1) of the following courses totaling three (3) hours:

  • OTS 846 or PSY 899 or PSY 887 or CDS 898 or SED 897 or PSY 898 or PSY 899A or CDS 899 or PSY 896 or PSY 990

TOTAL CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS       18 hours

Comprehensive Examination: In addition to the exit requirements for their degree, candidates for the certificate will be required to successfully complete an oral examination on Autism Spectrum Disorders and register for GRD 858n.
