About Psi Chi

What is Psi Chi?

Psi Chi is an international honor society in psychology. The purpose of Psi Chi is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. Becoming a member involves you in the EKU chapter of Psi Chi and also links you to an international community.

How can I get involved?

To become a member of Psi Chi you must fulfill five requirements: 1) have a 3.0 minimum GPA, 2) have taken 9 hours in psychology courses, 3) have completed three semesters of college, 4) be a psychology major or minor, and 5) have at least a 3.0 GPA in Psychology courses. If you meet the requirements, you can fill out an application and pay a onetime membership fee of $55. Once accepted into Psi Chi you are a member for life. The EKU Psi Chi Faculty Advisor is Dr. Adam Lawson, and you can email him with any questions you have at Adam.Lawson@eku.edu.

What's the difference between Psi Chi and Psychology Club?

Psychology Club and Psi Chi are similar in many ways. Essentially they are like one organization; Psychology Club and Psi Chi members work together in planning all activities, events, and monthly meetings. However, Psi Chi is a selective honors society requiring students to meet certain requirements before becoming a member. Because of this selectiveness, membership in Psi Chi is prestigious and is recognized as such when listed on a resume of graduate school application. In addition, some leadership positions are available only to Psi Chi members.

Are there any benefits to being a member of Psi Chi?

The benefits of being a member of Psi Chi are similar to those of Psychology Club. A sense of community, a chance to meet other students and professors, and opportunities to participate in psychology related events. Because it is a national honor society, there are additional benefits of Psi Chi membership not directly associated with EKU including: national recognition for academic excellence, over $300,000 in awards and grants, networking opportunities are regional and national conventions, and an opportunity to publish in a national journal—Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research. Visit the Psi Chi website for more information.

To join Psi Chi you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Have a 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Have taken 9 hours in psychology courses
  • Have completed three semesters of college
  • Be a psychology major or minor
  • Have a 3.0 minimum GPA in Psychology

If you meet these requirements please complete the application. In addition to submitting the application, you will also be required to pay a one-time membership fee of $55.
